I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family and their precious little boy Lucas.  Here is Lucas' story:  "During my 18 week anatomy scan ultasound for my baby I founf out I was expecting a baby boy but also to my complete surprise found out that my son had something wrong with his precious heart. After a few weeks we found out our baby boy Lucas John Lattan would be born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome ...aka half of a normal functioning heart. This would mean there would be 3 open heart surgeries in stages needed to keep him alive. Lucas was taken to the NICU as soon as he was born and at 6 days old he had his first open heart surgery the Norwood (one of the most extreme heart surgeries anyone could ever go through) He did so well after the surgery - thank God! Lucas had his second open heart surgery the Hemi Fontan at 5 months old and also did well with it. Lucas has had two non cardiac related surgeries as well and is due to have his third open heart surgery, the Fontan around his second Birthday in the next 4-6 months. These surgeries arent a guarenteed fix and his heart could require additional surgeries in the future, a pacemaker or if it ever failed a heart transplant... We hope and pray that these surgeries will work for his heart, and that his it will stay strong and he will live a very long and happy life!" (written by his mom Victoria)
